Here we share the best places for some short haul autumn sun. All under 4 hours’ flight away – Cyprus, Andalucia, Marrakech, Crete and Tenerife still promise lovely, sun-filled days right through until November. Perfect for that last hurrah long weekend.

With the kids back at school and the hardest of the party-goers back in Blighty, Cyprus has an unexpected peacefulness to it come September. Look to the west side of the island for rugged mountains, pine forests and wild beaches and, after a long hot summer, the sea is delightfully warm.
Set just back from the beach in Paphos, we love Anassa for its sleek and elegant style and excellent on-site spa. Run by the Thanos family, this Chic Retreat offers warm and friendly service and an attention to detail that is second to none.

Spain’s southernmost region, Andalucia offers a plethora of wonderful cities, mountains and gorgeous coastline to explore. Boasting a year-round mild climate, you can expect warm sunny days right into November.
Nestled in the Cabo de Gata Nature Reserve a 5-minute drive from the beach, Real La Joya offers a wonderfully scenic, adult-only countryside retreat. With a gorgeous pool, hot tub and massage treatments available, you can enjoy some serious r&r.
October average high: 26o
Marrakech is an amazing city to visit any time of the year but we particularly like it in autumn, when you can still revel in some hot sun-filled days on the rooftop of your riad.
One of our favourite places to stay is Riad Farnatchi – an oasis of calm in the heart of the Medina. The courtyard pool beckons for a swim after a hot day in the Souk, the on-site spa is one of the best in town and the staff couldn’t be friendlier.
October average high: 24o
The southernmost island of Greece, Crete is blessed with sunshine for most of the year. Whilst the evenings are cooler, you can still expect plenty of sunshine in October without the summer hoards.
Chania is a great place to stay – a beautifully historic town on the north coast, the Old Town offers pretty, winding streets, fantastic tavernas and plenty of fantastic beaches a short drive away (including Balos Beach that is pictured above). We love Alcanea Boutique Hotel – set on the waterfront in the heart of town, there isn’t anything more romantic than a glass of local wine watching the sunset over the harbour.
October average high: 25o
It’s no secret that Tenerife is a top, year round sunshine destination and with that come the tourists. But, step away from the mass resorts of the south, and you can discover amazing architecture, fantastic food, vineyards and banana plantations. Not to mention the more secluded, black sand beaches of the north coast like Playa Bollullo.
Staying north, we love Boutique Hotel San Roque for it’s authentic Canarian feel (and lovely courtyard pool). Set in the heart of the pretty coastal town of Garachico you are spoilt for choice on great seafood restaurants and the views are spectacular.
