Taking place between 28th January and 2nd February for its 2016 edition, the Grenada Sailing Festival is one of the Caribbean paradise’s biggest events – a highly competitive yet upbeat week of sailing competition, complete with an exceptionally warm Grenadian welcome.
Based at the Port Louis Marine, the festival features international yacht racing around the island’s southern coast, welcoming several sailing captains and crews from across the region. The event also incorporates the popular Work Boat Regatta, taking place on Grand Anse Beach from January 30-31, with the racing boats developed from the fishing boats used traditionally throughout the island.
Alongside the thrilling displays of sailing, there’s plenty more to the festival than just the action happening on the water, including the dockside and after-race parties at the Marina’s very own Victory Bar. You can also indulge even more in the island’s way of life and experience its friendly hospitality with the variety of entertainment laid on, including music, dancing, strongman competitions and a fireworks extravaganza.
Winding down from the days in the sun enjoying the festivities, our Caribbean boutique hotels are pure bliss and offer the perfect getaways. LaLuna is hidden within ten acres of unspoilt land near the south-west coast, surrounded by lush green hills and situated on the beautiful white sands of Morne Rouge. As well as hosting its very own restaurant and spa, LaLuna also offers complementary watersport activities such as diving, hobie-cat sailing and diving – perfect if the festival has inspired you to take to the water! If you’re seeking something a little closer to the action, luxury villa retreat Mount Cinnamon, which overlooks the two-mile stretch of Grand Anse Beach, may be just what you’re looking for. Boasting a gym, pool, spa and restaurant, Mount Cinnamon is perfect for anyone after the perfect island escape.
